Effective commercial contracting in the public sector involves additional considerations unique to government. Understanding the nuances is vital for government departments and agencies to achieve their procurement, funding and policy objectives. 
 
The Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office invites you to a seminar about some of the unique issues that may arise in connection with government contracts, providing you with practical tools to develop and manage contracts in line with government frameworks. 
 
Presenters Rebecca Radford, Managing Principal Solicitor, Bakthi Jayasuriya, Principal Solicitor and Oliver Cox, Senior Solicitor, will draw upon their experience in government contracting to discuss:
 
  • The challenges of using contracts to achieve policy objectives
  • The ‘extra law’ that applies to government contracts
  • Practical contract management tools

About your speakers

 
Oliver Cox, Senior Solicitor, VGSO
 
Oliver advises on a range of commercial, governance, information handling and trusts law issues. 
 
Oliver has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating intergovernmental agreements and providing advice to Victorian Public Sector clients in relation to managing commercial relationships.
 
Bakthi Jayasuriya, Principal Solicitor, VGSO
 
Bakthi is an experienced advisor in government procurement and contracting. She advises on all aspects of government procurement from the preparation of tender documentation to evaluation of responses and final contracts. 
 
Bakthi has particular expertise in advising government on contract management tools and structures and transition from one service provider to another, particularly on large public private partnerships projects.
 
Rebecca Radford, Managing Principal Solicitor, VGSO
 
Rebecca leads a team of commercial lawyers at VGSO and has over 20 years’ experience in commercial law in both private and public sectors. 
 
Rebecca advises Victorian Public Sector clients on a broad range of commercial issues including tendering and procurements, contract drafting and negotiation and contract management and governance. She also advises extensively in information handling and inter and intra-governmental agreements.
