General Counsel Alison O'Brien has been shortlisted for the Government Lawyer of the Year Award in the 2011 Law Institute of Victoria's President's Awards. The LIV Awards celebrate talented individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the legal profession. Alison was nominated in recognition of her work in Public Law and her leadership role in the 2009 Royal Commission into the Bushfires. The Awards will be presented at an LIV luncheon on 18 November.

On 29 August 2011, Justice Emerton handed down her judgement in the proceeding Candibon v Minister for Planning and the State of Victoria. The proceeding was brought by the plaintiff in February 2006 and was heard between October and December 2010. Click here to read more.
The Victorian Attorney-General, Robert Clark has announced the appointment of Mr Peter Stewart as the next Victorian Government Solicitor.Mr Stewart will commence at VGSO on Monday 15 August.Mr Clark said Mr Stewart would provide strong leadership to the VGSO's team of more than 110 lawyers.
