    Attorney-General announces new Victorian Government Solicitor

    The Victorian Attorney-General, Robert Clark has announced the appointment of Mr Peter Stewart as the next Victorian Government Solicitor.Mr Stewart will commence at VGSO on Monday 15 August.Mr Clark said Mr Stewart would provide strong leadership to the VGSO's team of more than 110 lawyers.     VGSO Drives Historic Native Title Agreement

    The Federal Court of Australia held a Native Title Consent Determination Hearing yesterday (27 July 2011) at Eumaralla (Yambuk) Coastal Reserve on Victoria's south-west coast. The Consent Determination recognises the co-existent native title rights of the Gunditjmara People and the Eastern Maar People.  The VGSO has been working on this claim from the onset in 1996. The first part of the claim was settled on 30 March 2007.  Yesterday the second part of the claim was settled, amended to include the Eastern Maar People. To read more, click here.

    VGSO Indigenous Traineeships

    For the first time, the VGSO will be offering Indigenous Law graduates at least one Traineeship position every two years, in a new partnership with Tarwirri, the Indigenous Law Students and Lawyers Association of Victoria.
