Current practice

Chitra practices in all areas of property law, including Crown land issues, leases and licences, land sales and acquisitions.


Chitra has acted on a wide range of freehold and Crown land related matters for various government departments and agencies and committees of management for reserved Crown land.  She has substantial experience working on commercial, retail, industrial and telecommunications leases from both a landlord and tenant perspective, as well as on disposal and acquisition transactions, land use agreements, memoranda of understanding and related funding agreements.  
She has a strong understanding of complex property issues and efficient methods for allocating risk and responsibility in commercial negotiations.  Chitra has advised on many large Victorian government projects, including the Melbourne Convention Centre development project and the Melbourne Wholesale Market relocation project, addressing leasing, tenure structuring and other property issues.
Chitra has also undertaken pro bono work at the Brimbank Legal Centre.
Chitra is a practice group leader of the Land, Planning and Environment Practice Group at VGSO.
