Current practice

Isabel practices in commercial law, specialising in technology, intellectual property and competition law.  She leads VGSO's IT/IP team, undertaking work on IT projects and procurement.

She works on State multi agency procurements, and IT systems and services contracts for individual departments and agencies.  Isabel's recent work at VGSO includes advice to Corrections Victoria on past and current projects for electronic monitoring of offenders, drafting and negotiating the State's contract for the provision of a managed digital radio service for the CFA, advising Emergency Management Victoria's project for the addition of multiple government customers to existing State emergency services communications contracts and the procurement of the new national emergency alert solution, and procurement of cloud services for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Isabel's practice includes development and negotiation of project specific IT contracts, advice on cloud services, on use of the State eServices Register Contract and on agile methodology.  She advises project and procurement managers at every stage of the procurement process, including establishment of project governance, drafting and reviews tender documents, contracts and variations, and leading or supporting contract negotiations as required.

 

Experience

During her 10 years at VGSO, Isabel has advised on complex IT outsourcing projects for Victoria Police, Emergency Service & Telecommunications Authority, the Department of Justice and Regulation, Country Fire Authority and Rural Ambulance Victoria.

Her specialist IP work has included advice to the Department of Premier & Cabinet and Department of Treasury & Finance on use of Creative Commons licences, the release of public sector information, the State's IP Policy and Guidelines, management of Crown copyright and government databases.

Before joining VGSO Isabel worked in Sydney with major law firms as an IP lawyer and the commercial litigation partner, and as a commercial barrister.  In Melbourne she has been an in-house lawyer with Kodak, Coles Myer and Rio Tinto (where she worked with the Eastern Hemisphere Group Procurement unit).
