Current Practice

Melissa's current practice encompasses merits review in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal  (VCAT) and judicial review, victims of crime assistance, suitability panels, privacy, freedom of information (FOI) and regulatory licensing schemes. Her clients include Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal, Victoria Police, Department of Justice and Community Safety, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and the Department of Health and Human Services.


Prior to joining the VGSO, Melissa worked at Victoria Police in the Licensing and Regulation Division, providing advice in relation to occupational licensing and statutory interpretation. Melissa acted as an advocate in VCAT and the Firearms Appeals Committee (FAC).   This is in addition to four years Melissa spent working with Australian Federal Police (AFP) advising on complex areas of police powers, information disclosure, privacy, public interest immunity, criminal law and procedure.

Melissa has also worked at the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commission (VLSBC) acting in relation to consumer complaints and disciplinary proceedings and prior to that held  positions with the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Justice and Community Safety and the ACT Government Solicitor's Office.

Melissa completed a Bachelor of Criminology and a Bachelor of Laws in Western Australia, before being admitted to practice in 2011.
