The Civil Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group provides a full range of litigation and dispute resolution services to government departments and agencies. Matters regularly handled by the Practice Group include civil claims (assaults, false imprisonments, malicious prosecutions etc) against Victoria Police, negligence claims by former wards of the State, general  personal injury claims, judicial review proceedings, contempt of court, vexatious litigants, Asset Confiscation Act applications, charitable trusts, defamation, allegedly wrongful seizures by police and sheriff's officers, injunction applications, interpleader proceedings for the Sheriff, personal injury claims by prisoners and asbestos claims. It also regularly deals with applications under the Crimes (Mental Impairment & Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and the Serious Sex Offenders (Detention & Supervision) Act 2009. The Practice Group provides expert advice on issues such as public interest immunity and responses to subpoenas.
