2020 Seasonal Clerkship - Victorian Government Solicitor's Office

About the VGSO
The Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) vision is to be the Victorian Government's trusted legal partner.
The VGSO provides responsive legal services exclusively for the Victorian Government and public sector. Our place within government ensures we are at the centre of legal change, reform and problem-solving. We operate as a service-driven legal professional practice and strive for excellence in this competitive environment. In all aspects of our operations, we aim to role model and live by our values: Responsiveness, Integrity, Insight, Collaboration and Excellence.
Why Choose the VGSO?
Our 3 week Seasonal Clerkship offers a unique opportunity to explore the VGSO's collegiate culture, gain insight into the professional responsibilities of a government lawyer, meet our talented and highly motivated people, and gain practical legal experience.
Our clerks work closely with a mentor at the VGSO while getting involved in work that has immense impact on the everyday lives of Victorians. You will be provided with the opportunity to attend court and client meetings, develop your practical research skills, assist in drafting complex advice, and grow your professional legal skills through in-house workshops.
As a clerk, you will partake in a comprehensive induction program to ensure you understand the VGSO's unique business model and internal processes. You will also have a current graduate assigned to you as a buddy to help navigate your 3 weeks at the VGSO.
During your clerkship you will be placed in one of our six legal Branches:
  • Commercial, Property & Technology
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Police
  • Public Law & Planning
  • Regulation, Administrative & Disciplinary Law
  • Workplace Relations & Occupational Safety
Being development focused, you will receive regular feedback to assist you in the development of your skills, confidence and ability.
