About the branch and role
The Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging matters. The cases are frequently topical, often involve public interest issues and offer exposure to a broad range of legal issues.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Solicitor to join the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch on a fixed-term parental leave cover. In this role, you will provide high quality legal services to Government and efficiently manage litigation files. You will manage a variety of files including coronial inquests, tortious claims against police officers, general civil claims and matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare, manage and conduct a broad range of complex and sensitive litigation matters in diverse areas of law, for different clients and jurisdictions
  • Undertake research and analysis in discrete areas of law and provide high level and practical written advices to clients
  • Provide support to other streams of work undertaken by the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch as needs arise

Skills and experience

  • Currently hold, or eligible to hold, a valid practising certificate
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the practice and procedures of various Courts
  • Proven ability to provide oral and written advice on complex and sensitive matters and carry out complex legal research and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to review and manage complex and sensitive litigation matters and conduct court proceedings
