VGSO's Policy on e-Briefs for Counsel
In the pre-Covid period, many workplaces attempted to reduce their paper usage or aspired to be "paperless".  The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and work in many ways - including that it has led to a substantial reduction in the amount of printing of documents undertaken by our office as our workforce has worked from home.
With a large proportion of court hearings being run online, solicitors and barristers (and our clients) have adapted to working with electronic documents.
As we start to transition back to the office, we are considering our "Covid-normal" practices and have decided that, from 1 April 2021, the VGSO's policy will be that all briefs to barristers (counsel) will be provided in soft copy/electronic format only - and not in hard copy.  Not only is this good for the environment, it is consistent with the objectives of the Victorian Government's February 2020 "Recycling Victoria - a new economy" policy to reduce waste and pollution.
