Current practice

Alex's practice includes litigation and advisory work for a diverse range of government clients in constitutional law and administrative decision-making.   He advises clients on statutory interpretation, legislative and executive power, executive privilege, human rights and Crown prerogatives. 


Before joining VGSO, Alex worked as a litigation solicitor at a major commercial law firm and as an advisor at the Australian Government Solicitor's Office of General Counsel.  In the latter role, he advised on a broad range of matters across government, with a particular focus on public finance, and the environment and agriculture portfolios.  He has experience in constitutional law, statutory interpretation, delegations, environmental law, executive spending, intergovernmental immunities, administrative decision-making (including judicial review) and privacy and information law. 

Alex was an Associate to the Honourable Chief Justice Susan Kiefel AC at the High Court of Australia, where he helped to prepare and research matters on a wide range of topics in the Court's appellate and original jurisdictions.

Alex completed a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Melbourne with First Class Honours and various awards.
