Lead Counsel
BA (Hons), LLB (Hons), GDLP

Alex is Lead Counsel at the VGSO. He brings substantial Royal Commission experience to the team from his time in private practice, including:

  • the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission (solicitors assisting)
  • the Financial Services Royal Commission (acting for ASIC)
  • the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (acting for Victoria Police)

Alex has a decade of experience advising public sector decision makers about regulatory and policy issues, as well as acting in a range of high profile disputes, including those where the interests of Commonwealth and State regulators align or diverge. For example, he led a team acting for the Australian Energy Regulator in proceedings concerning 6.2b in disputed recovery by private and state owned energy distributors and transmitters.

Alex combines practical, direct advice with an uncompromising focus on client service - particularly important for clients faced with the demands posed by a Royal Commission.  He is confident presenting to key decision makers, providing advice, options and risk management strategies.

Alex holds degrees in Arts (Pol Sci) and Law with honours from the University of Melbourne and has completed further study in the economic regulation of essential services at the London School of Economics.
