Current practice

Alison joined the VGSO in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution team in September 2020 and practices principally in the State Care and Personal Injury Team supervising the conduct of historical and contemporary Ward of State matters. The SCPI team was formed following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse to guide clients to sensitively and effectively manage claims made by victims of institutional and other abuse, by reference to established practice protocols, the Model Litigant Guidelines and the Common Guiding Principles.


Prior to joining Government, Alison practiced extensively as a commercial litigation lawyer in boutique commercial litigation firms and Malleson Stephen Jaques, gaining extensive experience in the conduct of significant commercial matters in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Federal Court of Australia.

As a government lawyer, Alison's experience extends to the regulatory environment with experience at the Taxi Services Commissioner, Victorian Building Authority and the Working With Children Check Unit, where she managed applications for the review of administrative decisions brought in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Victorian Supreme Court, Court of Appeal.

Immediately prior to joining the VGSO, Alison was the solicitor with the conduct of a significant judicial review proceeding on behalf of the State in the Supreme Court of Victoria and is experienced in managing complex commercial matters in the judicial review and policy environment, that engage multiple government departments and agencies and managing an Inter-Departmental Committee for the conduct of the same.

Alison enjoys mentoring junior lawyers and proactively contributing to process improvements within a practice area to achieve best practice for clients.
