Current practice

Charlie has a broad inquiries practice and currently supports the State's response to the Royal Commissions into Aged Care Quality and Safety, National Natural Disaster Arrangements and into Victoria's Mental Health System. She previously supported to the Board of Inquiry into the COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Program as a member of the Office of Solicitors Assisting.  Her practice includes providing strategic and pragmatic legal advice in relation to the powers of State and Commonwealth Commissions and sensitive public interest immunity claims, preparing witnesses to give evidence before Commissions and Inquiries and the preparation of State responses to Commissions.

Experience

Before joining the VGSO Charlie worked as a government lawyer with Commonwealth departments and agencies. She managed litigation in Courts and Tribunals and provided advice on the administration of Social Security, Child Support and related legislation to a number of government clients. She also had an extensive Freedom of Information practice and provided advice under the Privacy Act.

Prior to admission to practice Charlie worked in community development, implementing programs aimed at preventing violence against women and improving service delivery models for Melbourne's outer growth corridor. She completed internships with the Kimberley Land Council in Broome, Western Australia and with the Civil Law Team at Victoria Legal Aid.
