Current practice

Leigh provides advice on a range of workplace matters, predominantly relating to occupational health and safety and criminal law.

Experience

Prior to joining the VGSO, Leigh worked with WorkSafe Victoria where he gained significant experience in occupational health and safety matters, including in the Internal Review Unit and Prosecutions Teams.  Leigh has also worked for the Office of Public Prosecutions where he prosecuted serious indictable crimes as well as an Associate in the County Court of Victoria.  He also has experience in the community legal sector

Throughout his career, Leigh has managed a number of complex and high profile criminal prosecutions in the County and Supreme Courts and regularly appeared in the Magistrates' Court. He has provided high level technical legal advice, including in relation to criminal prosecutions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic) involving fatalities and serious injuries, the issuing of WorkSafe improvement notices and requests to produce information and has delivered training to WorkSafe Inspectors.

He is also a volunteer with the Eastern Community Legal Service.
