Andrea has over 19 years' legal experience gained in government, as a barrister and in private practice. Her practice encompasses advocacy, litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory prosecutions and statutory interpretation across a diverse range of legislation.

Andrea leads a team of solicitors that advise on departmental and regulator responses to, and governance of, emerging or existing industry practices. The team provide legal services that ranges from providing specialised advocacy, drafting regulatory frameworks, procedure manuals, precedent documents for internal use by agencies, through to advice on the rules of evidence and prospects of success in inquiries, disciplinary proceedings, prosecutions and appeals. Andrea and the team also provide specialised training packages on investigation, court processes and substantive law topics.

As former in-house lawyer, Andrea understands the significant pressure to reduce legal risk and resolve issues cost effectively, and can assist with setting a strategy to collaboratively position to manage your risks and seize opportunities.

Andrea is experienced in conducting proceedings in the Supreme Court, Federal Court, Magistrates' Court and Tribunals. The team can contribute by acting as Counsel assisting to prepare matters by requesting relevant material or reports, conducting cross-examination, and making submissions.

Prior to joining the VGSO, Andrea was a Senior Advocate at Consumer Affairs Victoria. In that capacity she conducted complex criminal, civil and disciplinary matters on behalf of the Director of Consumer Affairs Victoria. Andrea also acted on behalf of the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and the Business Licensing Authority in respect to freedom of information requests and review proceedings.

Andrea has appeared as a Solicitor Advocate/Counsel before all Victorian Courts and within the Federal jurisdiction. Her experience includes:

  • Contraventions of Australian Consumer Law;
  • Criminal prosecutions;
  • Contempt of Court/Tribunal;
  • Disciplinary Proceedings;
  • Review Proceedings; and
  • Freedom of Information.

As a barrister at the Victoria Bar she specialised in commercial litigation, regulatory law, bankruptcy/insolvency, consumer law, property law and debt recovery. Prior to joining the Victoria Bar Andrea worked in private commercial legal practice for over ten years.

Andrea presents continuing professional development seminars, has acted as both a presenter and instructor at the Leo Cussen Centre for Law, is a published Lexology author and is a qualified mediator.
