Melanie is an accomplished lawyer and specialises in technology law, intellectual property, privacy, data protection and cyber security. Melanie qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and has worked in private practice in England for regional and international law firms and has held positions in leading law firms in Australia. She has also completed various in-house secondments undertaking a variety of technology and commercial work.

As part of the VGSO's Commercial, Property and Technology branch, Melanie advises government clients on a range of technology matters including drafting and negotiating commercial agreements essential for technology procurement and has specialised knowledge of SaaS and cloud computing, on-premises software solutions, open-source software, IT services agreements, support and maintenance agreements, licensing and commercialisation arrangements. Melanie also provides advice on:

  • data protection, privacy and cybersecurity matters;
  • data sharing;
  • research and development contracts;
  • collaboration agreements;
  • RFP preparation and responses; and
  • general commercial contracting and advice.

Melanie is recognised for her strong technical skills and attention to detail. Prior to joining VGSO, Melanie worked at two leading commercial law firms in Melbourne where she advised on customer-side and vendor-side technology procurement as well as FMCG and other commercial contracting matters.
